Beachgoers are invited to participate in the Beach Radio Network. Utilizing hand-held, two-way FRS radios (available at places like Fry's, Circuit City, Best Buy, etc.), everyone is welcome to be a part of the network. The radios are inexpensive, often on sale for $20 a pair. Ths provides an instant communication system in place among beach users, enabling people to summon help or alert others to an issue on the beach. At Sauvie Island, we're working on the idea to include law enforcement on the network. The radio network is being tested out at Sauvie Island and Rooster Rock.
The Beach Radio Network utilizes Channel 12 (467.6625 MHz). The frequencies and channel numbers are standard among different brands, so any brand of FRS (Family Radio Service) radio may be used. For more information, feel free to contact us.
